shimming the front springs.

Looking for advice on what to use for a little more spring in the front. I think I may need new springs but maybe not and if so progressives are the way to go but until I can afford some I want to see what happens with a little more support. Used to shim M/C springs with washers or whatever but thought someone here might have tried something different, looking for maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch shim, something better than stacking washers..what do you think?

How do you mean you want a little more spring, firmer or ride height?

Yes, I was thinking of going with stacking washers maybe 2-3 each side ..I think my front may be sagging but don't know ..low miles but spent a long time sitting, just want to try it to see if it improves ride and handling, was also thinking two valve shims from my VW but not sure they will fit..though maybe someone else tried something besides washers.

I did that on my Trike front forks...... worked just fine.

A short chunk of pvc plastic pipe works great for pre-load spacers, just saw off a piece the length you need.

Putting shims or spacers in will help take out the sag but it won't help the actual spring rate.....the springs will still be just as weak. I think putting in heavier fluid would have more of an effect.

true bib to a point ...preload adds stiffness from get go or sitting ..thicker oil adds rate so on possitive side you spelled both deals to add spring over stock and spend no money
