There's a motor number stamped on the top right rear of the engine, should begin with SC14E, give me that number and the frame number off the neck and we will know exactly what you got and what we have to work with, shoot me the numbers and we will find out. Don't go by the numbers on the title.

I'll be gone most of the day but hopefully back in time for a few more pictures if needed to sort this out.
So far its not raining today.

So what's the plan here?

I would like to first see a pic of back of the engine, best shot you can get, and also the left side of the frame where the regulator is with the false tank removed. Good clear and well lit pics so we can see what you need.

I can only give you what my tablet camera allows me to, and it has no flash, and its 4:30pm so this is best I could get. I can't get any better pics of the back of the engine, bike is back together. The two bare connectors top of the frame facing you are what the cdi was plugged into.

cable clutch not on 1200's
Except when an 1100 rear cover and clutch linkage are used. Only possible on the 84 1200.

Like Dan's :good:

Ok, I flipped the one picture....... You got a mess going on here.
IMG_20141110_162950.jpg

I don't see any spark units... need those.

The rear pic looks like a 1200 ignition housing....need a complete 1100 ignition housing.

Did you say you want to relocate everything from under the false tank?
Where ya gonna put everything?
Lot's of rewiring to do to make a bare frame area there.

Well for now I'd just like to get the thing cleaned up and running with stock layout, later down the road some of the electronics could be relocated to inside the frame rather than on top and outside the frame. I have half a battery tray free too, using smaller than stock battery.
Electric fuel pump needs a better location too, its just sitting on the rear of the block.

Yes its a mess, lots of work needed to clean up this wiring. Yes there are no spark units, just had the Hitachi cdi. This harness doesn't have plug ins for two ignitors, only connections for the cdi.

Hmm, were the cdi plugs soldered into the 83 harness in place of the spark unit plugs?

Not that I can see. Its all wrapped in tape so maybe I should strip the tape off?

Yes I would strip the tape back so we know better what's going on here. Could it be you have a 1200 harness? Cant tell yet.

I do have an 83 harness, not complete I've been robbing connectors from but I think it still has good spark unit plugs.

We'll get this sum bitch running one way or another.

That's an 83 Standard frame which came without fairing. I think you said it had a fairing on it, was it an original 1200 fairing, a vetter or some other aftermarket type. I'm kinda leaning towards the idea some one was taking a Standard, 83 and building a souped up dresser out of it, and I kinda think they swapped out the wiring harness along with the souped up engine and used a 1200 wiring harness when they made the swap. There should be a white tag somewhere on the main trunk of the wiring harness that has a part number on it, if it has MG9 on it, it is a 1200 harness, I think the 1100 harness has MGB on it, I"ll have to check that to make sure.
