so, as of today, my starter is haveing a really hard time turnning over, I can maybe get it to whirl once, but most of the time i get nothing. Im not sure if i just need to clean it or what...probably needs new brushes. so im wondering what you think and also...where the hell is it located? a pic to show me would be nice.

thanks ansimp. my buddy who usually works on my bikes with me thinks there is probably just a dirty connection somewhere, though next weekend still going to have him pull that out and clean it for me.

Good question.
It'll act just like a dead battery or starter if it does.

no idea....how would i be certain thats what it is and how would i fix it?

Most likely to hydrolock if the gas is left turned on while parked.
To check if it is, pull the spark plugs out and crank it with the starter. If gas sprays out, you got it.

i have always left the switch to on, never had a problem like this until today. is it better if i do switch it off at night? i ride every day so its not like it sits for a week.

When you say switch, do you mean the fuel petcock? That is what we are referring to.

yes, that is what i am also talking about.

It's good to get in the habit of turning it off.
With carbs on my bike that really shouldn't leak, I've had hydrlock a few times.
It doesn't mean anything is wrong with your bike, it's just the way carbs are on bikes, sometimes they leak past, especially if on the sidestand.

Well...just scarred me is all. kept doing it through the day, last hour or so havent really had a problem. Just when the starter doesnt turn over at all like the battery is dead, or it only rotates half way like there is something blocking it from rotating. guess ill see if keeping it turned to off when im not riding helps.

how long does it take if you turn the switch to off before it will shut off the bike from lack of fuel?

Several minutes at idle usually. About 30 ft past my driveway under acceleration. Go ahead. Ask how I know dat!

Depends on if you are riding hard or not. If it is just idling away it will probably run for up to 5 minutes.

yeah, i cant even get the starter to move...there is plenty of juice in the battery, but the starter seems to be stuck now like with my old bike, i had a problem with the starter and the brushes kept getting worn down faster then they probably should have.

If you pull the plugs out Buck you should be able to use the rear wheel with the bike in gear to turn over the engine to check for raw fuel in the cylinders. The other indication is an engine oil level that is increasing when it should be decreasing.
