Starter/stator running a little hot????

Sounds like you have a rectifier/regulator fault or a bad connection. When you get your 14.5v things are working, when you get 13 and the bike is hard starting you are not charging....

If you are getting 14.5 volts at the battery at 3000 RPM while sitting still, the stator and regulator are working. I would look at all of your ground wire connections and verify you are making good clean contact particularly at the frame and battery. Are you using running lights and a light bar by chance?

No nothing added at all , no running lights or anything

I will really look hard at grounds, yesterday I was sanding connections that looked good even, I guess I will have to remove seat and gas tank(fake) to get a good look at everything?

That "trunk lid", were you talking about the saddle bag lid???????

I have the 2 side boxes and the ////what I call trunk on back rack, same as picture on front of Clymer front page of Honda GL1200 84-87
