was really close to being in sync yesterday before I started the tune up..(ran pretty good,, much worse now) should I buy a fuel pressure gauge,?, noticed once engine kinda cut out a lil, without moving the throttle. More to the point,, where im at with the sync,,,,Sometimes Im backed so far off on the idle adj. screw,, to the point where it's not doing anything,, .. any ideas? I think I may have to buy a rebuild kit and go through the carbs,, I haven't really done that yet,, just cleaned up one or two carbs once. plus if you buy a gasket kit you will probably eliminate any fuel leaks..

If it was better where it was put it back. Synchronizing the carbs assures the slides all start from the same point at the same time. Do you have tiny offset screwdriver to adjust the air/fuel mix screws?

Sometimes you need to do a dry sync of the butterfly plates to be sure they are all exactly the same before you start with a full sync. It is easy to get one side way past the other and still idle.

I do have a tool for the idle adj. screw. I just synced it by ear,, running much better, good enough actually,, idle sounds much better,, was so bad almost sounded like a knock. I guess I could mess with idle adj. screws,,, If I get a set of trustworthy gauges, and get it where its in sync,, if idle doesn't sound right I will go there, Thanx. oh, ok thanx for that mcgovern

Run a couple of tank fulls with seafoam then try it again. also rule out vacuum leaks etc. I am proponent of doing everything, typically find more than one problem.

I ran a few tanks with double dose of MMO before I did the synch, been running perfect since. Even better with No ethanol gas.

Also check your plugs, how are they burning?

I went to seafoam after the sync,, 60 miles,,(and one night),, then refill and mmo, twenty miles,, did some higher rpm's, then hard off throttle.. I will check for other leaks.. I could go through the carbs, but it's better riding weather here now,, than having it down. running pretty good, i could look on fleabay , maybe find some better gauges. - we have mostly no ethanol gas here,, fortunatly

I tried synchronized my carbs and just seemed to make things worse. Did the bench sync thing while carbs were still on the bike. BIG improvement. I always thought I was pretty good mechanic but these carbs kicked my butt.

They can be a royal pain. Which is a big part of why the single carb conversion has been pursued. You adjusted the linkage for this?

Yea, no real substitute for clean, sealed and properly set carbs..did mine 2X , second time around I wasn't going to do it 3X so I was careful to clean and replace most everything.
I had heard from others a way to clear lighly blocked jets was by blocking the air horns on top the air cleaner until it just about stalls and then revving it while pulling the rag out.
Then another said to hit the kill switch while at highway speeds and then turn it back on.
I know one thing, they are finicky carbs and everything has to be just right. About 2 turns out on the air screw is all you need for starts, do a plug check after a few hundred miles.
