I've been using a database program I bought after the great crash of '09 which was working fine making restore-able database backup files but I believe since the forum has grown making the database grow ever larger these backups are not importing properly.
Without reliable database backups we stand the chance of loosing everything like we did in '09.
At that time I was trusting the built in backup system the forum software has but since have found out they are no good either.
Roncar and I have been doing tried and proven manual backups each morning of the database but this is really something neither of us should have to do so I've been running a trial program in auto mode for the last 2 weeks.
It has proven with multiple restores of a test forum database that they are in fact working and confirming the database gets backed up every morning.
I have tried many "free" and open source backup tools but they lack the functionality in ways that we need.
A few of them create corrupt files so the saying holds true, ya get what ya pay for.
The program that does work costs $80 so I'm asking for donations to cover that.
If you'd like to make a separate donation to the forums that's ok too, just let me know what amount should go to each :thanks:
And fyi, All the actual server files which include all the forum software files, gallery photo's, manuals, video's, etc are all backed up with another program each morning to my machine then backed up again to Carbonite, also Roncar does an occasional full backup. All of these backups have been confirmed complete so we are covered there.
Thanks for your support guys!
