Won't be able to see it from here...it'll happen right at sundown for us, and with all the trees around us, it's gunna be a no show. Farther West will be much better viewing.

Supposedly, welding helmet glass is pretty good for this kinda stuff...NOT the little goggles used for a cutting torch, but a real welding helmet, and NOT an auto-darkening one. That's what they say, anyway...whoever "THEY" are....

Get a piece of cardboard, and poke a small hole in it. That will concentrate the sun's power right onto your eyehole....kinda like a laser.... :smilie_happy:
My welding helmet is at home...I'll have to get it down off the wall and see what lens I have in it...

That's a pin hole lens. Might work actually! ::hihihi::

As for the #, does it usually on the glass?
Mine came with cheapo HF MIG welder. The user manual (for the welder) doesn't say anything.

Like I said, I can look at normal sun through it without hurting my eyes so should work with eclipse. The only concern is too dark but then so be it.

Sometimes (when they're new) it might have some small lettering along the edge of the glass, covered by the frame in the helmet. I think most helmets will come with a #10 installed and you can buy different ones extra. If I remember correctly, #10 is the minimum recommended darkness for arc welding. My eyes are going south with age these days. Anything darker than a 10 and I start wandering all over the place because I can't see where I'm welding.

My video camera is the only thing I have for us to look at it with. I have to adjust for the movement of the earth about every 5-7 minutes.

Would love to see that video!

This is the only thing I currently own that will adjust out enough to see anything besides white. I'm using UV, ND and a circular Polarizer filters. Can't seem to do anything about the lens flare.
