..Hello to everyone......i am having trouble with the marks on the cam pulleys...i seem to have 2 different types...one with a v mark and one with a dot mark....can someone tell me which marks are the right ones for timing.....i have done some resarch and i get different answers....when i pulled the belts off...the timing marks were lined on the dots...and i have no valve to piston clashing..but this is the limit with being 3 out of place... i am having trouble with No.1 and No.3 not running right....seems like the are not responding....i have checked the plugs for fire, the carbs for fuel..i have ohm the coils, the pulse generator, everything is right.... and this motor only has 23,000 miles......now i am at a standstill......please help.

the marks are just disgusting the way honda did this confusing crap of a part...it makes no sence why they did this ....you probably have it wrong ...without pics its hard to tell ....maybe someone will post some pics of what its suppose to look like im not that savy on how to do this with the pics tranporting

The other mark to look at first is the word "UP" at the top. When the pully is on the right mark (exactly 90 degrees to the word "UP") the word "UP" will be level if you will. For example, if one of your two marks is wrong, the word "UP" will be slightly turned. The pulleys are designed for the timing so they are set for 0-180 degrees, hence, the mark you are looking for should be exactly 90 degrees lined up.

...Thanks for your reply, I checked on this..and the dots are lining up..and not the v marks in the pulleys...this is great news...but i am still wondering why no.1 and 3 are not responding now....or should i say...seems like they are not runnning like 2 and 4....i pulled the wires of 1 and 3 and the motor had no change....i put them back on and pulled of 2 and 4..it quit running.... :help:

i drop my bike once and when it hit it stop the belt or whatever and it jumped three teeth on that side ....and it didnt hit the pistons but would not run either i finaly checked the timing and seen it was off three teeth and reset it and it crank right back up and was fine ....that was a long time ago but im sure thats wat it went ...its can be hard to set the timing with the valve spring pressure ....i generaly loosen all the valve adjusters witch releaves some of the pressure to make it easier to do ...keep posting i think it takes five post to get to the teck section i think there some good stuff there on timing the wing
