I was doing a stationary burn out while holding the front brake (the knucklehead in me) the other day and curious if little flakes of rubber coming off the tire is normal when performing this type of abuse or is the tire destined for landfill?

Well. I have done the same thing but never thought about whether it was good for the tire or not because I know it isnt. I also would not be surprised if there were flakes coming off it. You are heating it up past the normal temperature and it is melting and then coming apart in flakes or chunks. Ever watch Nascar? Here them talk about getting up in the marbles? Those are pieces of tire.
I really did think you were kidding. :Egyptian:

First time doing that on the bike and not too concerned about the tire. Its got perfect tread but over 6 years old so it's getting replaced with an E3 soon as I have the cash.

Better get the cash fast if you continue the burn outs. :hihihi:
I did that once on a brand new tire a few years ago ( a really long time ago actually ) on my first wing which was an 82 standard with all the Vetter stuff that could be had. I bought the bike brand new. We were at a AMA flat track weekend and a Honda had just won their first national flat track race. We were kind of pumped up and when I got back to the hotel I lit the rear tire up in the parking lot. One of my stupid friends took a picture while I was doing it and you couldnt see the bags through the smoke. My Wife happened to see the picture.
Not good,,,,,,,, she didnt see the humor in it.

I am much older and wiser now. :mischief:
