I know we have a tire section on the forum but I thought I would start here. On my 83 I have Metzeler Marathons. I have developed an unusual wear pattern on the rear tire. The sides don’t seem to be wearing evenly, they aren’t cupping but just have uneven wear on both sides of the tire.

Secondly the bike seems to want to track every uneven portion of pavement I come across. I have adjusted the tire pressure up and down, experimented with fork and shock air pressure. Checked the swing arm and it is fine.

Has anyone else had these tires and had good or bad luck with them. I what are some of you running that you are happy or unhappy with?

ive tryed all tires for oldwings but the ones ive tryed are all crap ...i admit that i have very deverse conditions that i ride on as in roads but the tires offered for oldwings wear fast to a certain point and from there theres no telling what the tire mat do from there ....for sure they get more dangerous brands of tires are not consistant from one to another IMHO i think the tires are so much worst in general to car tires its not funny at all ....truck drivers could not put up with such terrible product on there trucks ...but somehow no manufactor trys to beat such a lousy standard of tires offered to oldwings ...it surely wouldnt be much of a challengh to to beat such crappy standards offered :nea:

I had this same tire and the same problems on the front wheel when I got this wing. Awful tracking, with strange wear on the sides(like feathering but not). It all went away when I got the Dunlap 404s.

when I got my Goldwing it had what looked like a new set of Matching Pirelli tires on it . I had never had a Pirelli tire before in my life , ( out of my price range ) ........ BUT , NOW ......I would never buy anymore. I can cross the center line on a straight rode , and it's like trying to stay on a wild horse........ :smilie_happy: they are just not stable at all . I have had the same thing with tires before , but not near as bad as these tires. and I too.....checked Swing Arm Bushings , Tire Pressure , and still the same. I'm pretty sure it's Just the Tires.

Hey guys thanks much for your input. I was beginning to think I was really missing something. Funny thing is my riding buddy said the rubber compound on the Metzlers was too soft for my bike, should have listened to him. These tires have plenty of tread on them but I'm replacing them ASAP. Thanks again.

Getting the right compound for bike tires is problematic. We each have to try different tires as we do not all ride the same and our bikes do not all weigh the same. That said we can get close copying what works well for others who ride similar bikes. Standards are a good bit lighter than dressers. I feel better changing tires more often on my bikes than cars because I do want them soft enough to stick in a hard lean.

I am very happy with my Bridgestone Spitfires! They have met my expectations 10 fold! (13,000 miles on the rear before replacement).
That's what I recently purchased for my bike. Did a lot of research here and elsewhere and those do seem to get you the most miles. Not sure how well they stick to the road though in a tight turn (I'm a pretty conservative rider) but haven't heard anything bad about 'em. Always good to check the mfg. date.

I am tickled pink with the E3s from dunlop.
I talked into them from a friend after discouraging results from the E2s.I tried a set before looking at another brand and am glad I did.I am on my second set and love them in every road condition.

Last Friday I put on a set of Dunlop Elite 3s and I have a new bike. I've put about two hundred miles on it since installing the tires and I just love the way she handles now. I contacted Dunlop and asked them what they recommended for my bike and that is what I got and man am I happy I did. My commute to work these last two days have been a real joy. Much of my commute is on a two lane winding road and the cornering is just fantastic with these tires. Lesson learned.

I have about 1000 miles on my front E3 and it looks like when it was first put on.

It has always handled great and when I have the spare coin for a rear an E3 is going there also.
