Had a few days off so took my son (13) with me and rode up and over Lake Michigan.A trip I've never done,but had intended to a few times but failed to start.
We boarded the USS Badger https://www.ssbadger.com at 9:00 am monday morning.That meant leaving home just before 6
oam.
Arrived in Manitowac wisconsin at 1:00pm.(Staying on eastern time)
Took a breif ride through a little of Dorr County,then up and through Green Bay following the coast up,back into Michigan stopping for the night in Escanaba."ESCANABA IN THE MOONLIGHT"
Tuesday morning we followed US2 along the lakeshore,down a penensula to the ghosttown/ abandoned smelting town of Fayette https://www.ghosttowns.com/states/mi/fayette.html
From there we continued on US2 to souix choix light house, www.exploringthenorth.com/seulchoix/seul.html which required navigating a few miles of gravel road but worth it.No ghost,not my thing anyway,just like lighthouses.
Next,after a great lunch at a little Bar and Grill in Garden MI we explored the CUT RIVER BRIDGE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cut_River_Bridge and worked are way down to Saint Ignace,the second oldest city in the US,and then over the mackinaw bridge.www.mackinacbridge.org
I have riden over that bridge a dozen times but this was the worst time.Very windy and one lane closed forcing the 20mph trucks in the same lane.Fighting the high wind,slow speed and wobbly grate was a nervous combination but we made it just in time to tour the mackinaw lighthouse. https://www.mackinacparks.com/old_mackin ... ighthouse/
We spent tuesday night in a great motel in mackinaw city overlooking the bridge and lighthouse after enjoying an excallant dinner at the Key Hole Bar.
Wednesday we toured Fort Michilimackinac before buying the traditional fudge for the wife and heading west to Cross Village and riding down M119 "The tunnel of trees" and then following the lakeshore back down.
All done and said,we logged around 1,000 miles and viseted many sites I've never made it to in the past for whatever reasons.A good trip.Ofcourse the bike ran perfectly.
