When I finally get to put the case back together, does anyone know what the torque is suppose to be on the various bolts? Everything that I find (including my Goldwing book), just simply says to bolt the 2 cases together.

I use the torque value for each of the size bolts. I think the manual has a listing what those are but most importantly is tightening them all evenly. I like to make multiple passes until they're all to torque.

When I find that damned torgue spec that seems hard to find, I write it on page of the book so it is there if I ever need it again. I figueR if I needed it once, I will probably need it again and don't want to go through the aggrivation of finding it again! :head bang:

Here are the torque values for the various size bolts.

I'm with Dan, raise each value incrementally for best results until you have all torqued properly.

10-4, I always torque in 2 or 3 steps. Thanks.

Does the 1000 have different size bolts than the 1100? Because these values are for 6,8 and 10mm. I have 10, 12 and 14 mm bolts. I'd assume that the torque values would be slightly greater.

The bolt sizes in the manual are the shaft thickness, not the head, or wrench sizes. 6mm bolt = 10mm head, 8mm = 12mm head, and 10mm = 14mm head.

Ohhhhhhh, ok thanks.
Don't tell anyone that I didn't know that.... LOL

It's all good. I was confused about it, and it took me a while to figure it out.
Yep, wrench size (head size) is definitely not bolt size

Details Jersey! details! Which crank, what did you find and what are you going to do in the end?

I plasti guaged the 81 crank (the clean one) and it was good. I reassembly the case AND broke a bolt torquing it down. One of the middle ones (not one of the big 6). The others torqued nicely but that one just snapped before the torque wrench even clicked...

Sooooo, i pulled the bolt back out and it broke showing half the threads still on the bolt....

So that's disassebly and drilling in my future....

I jump back on it friday or Saturday when I get back

Just make sure that you have the right torque figures for the broken bolt, it's is unusual to break one while torquing up :crying:

The others went to the "click" of the wrench with no problem. This one broke prior to the "click", I'm thinking that this bolt was already damaged.....because someone definately was inside this motor before...there were 3 case bolts that were almost finger tight...

I found that my engine has missing bolts and one was broken. I actually put the engine back together except for the heads. When I get back to NJ, I'm going to throw it on the bike and see what happens.

I'd like to get that second motor and take my time rebuild it for the future.
