(prologue) A year ago some of you may remember I parked my Wing poorly on a windy day resulting in a complete tip-over onto the left side. At that time I was complaining about the transmission acting up. Over the last year however it had improved to the point of not being an issue. Also at that time I asked the community if a powerful shock sideways could screw up the shifting, and none of us really knew so I forgot about it...
Last Saturday I took what I got to keep of a $411 jackpot(after the wife helped herself) down to the leather shop and finally got my big CGW patch sewn on my vest and bought a pair of riding boots. Well right off I didn't like the feel of the shifter lever position with the new boots. For some reason I couldn't upshift to 5th easily, so when I stopped on the way home to wash the bike I adjusted the lever up. This took a lot of jiggling, and a little up/down movement. I didn't like this position either, so I put it back where it was and just retrained myself to shift with the new boots, what I should have done in the first place. I think this high mileage tranny just can't handle any lateral movement at the shift lever
Now I'm having trouble down shifting from 3rd down...it also likes to hang in neutral on the way to first. Other factors besides jacking with the shift lever are; 1. old shift cable, I can't seem to find a good adjustment, 2. High mileage clutch, 3. Could use an oil change(already had one planned for this Saturday), anyway do you guys have thoughts on this shifting problem?
