hi everybody,i have heads on, belts on, and everything looks good there.when i took the heads off i loosened all the tension screws.when i have the engine at t.d.c and adjust #1, #2 is loose at the same time. but #3 intake and #4 exhaust are tight.when i go around again at t.b.c #3in and #4 ex. are loose.but when it gets back to t.d.c. #1 & #2 are loose at the same time again.what am i doing wrong? i hope i explained this o.k.

hmmmmm okay i hate this question it always shoes my lack of memory...im assuming you turned the motor over a bunch to ck for hitting of valves ...the gallery has a valve adjusting guild by roady witch is good ...ill look into it now myself im doing it today on the 1200 im working on ...ill post back in a minute

It takes two full revolutions to get back to the compression stroke when checking the valves. Same with the exhaust.

very helpful articles.i did not know about setting #3 & #4 at t-2.that explains it.i also seen an article about adjusting each valve when its at it compression stroke.i think i get it now.i will let you know how it goes.

Some cams in some engines have a little bit of variance. When the factory has the designs for a paticular engine, they usually get bids from competitive grinders. The company that comes in the lowest within specs wins the job. So not all cams for a given application are all going to be perfectly the same, plus you have the design tolarences built into the specs, and then not all grinders' machines are gonna be the same; depends on how often they check their results against the print and re-calibrate the machine.
