So the sound i have been hearing for a while is what i have been told is valve tick, and today i came across someone who use to own an 81 goldwing, and told me that you have to adjust the valves pretty often with a special wrench. I have yet to be told this by any of my mechanics.

Do the valves need adjusting? I have the spacer tool for it, but no idea on how to do it actually.

First I've heard that valves need adjusted "often". There are other things that sound almost like a valve tick. A small hole in the exhaust for example. Valves that "need" adjustment are usually tight (quiet). It certainly won't hurt to adjust them properly but don't be surprised if the sound remains.

That tutorial is from Roady and it is excellent! Be sure the bike is overnight cold before adjusting the valves. No special tools are needed just the blade gauges a screw driver and wrench.

Well now..that all depends on how good you are at adjusting them to start with.....
I did mine when I put the heads back on last summer, but I gotta admit, I think I left a couple of them a little loose. I do need to re-do them, but it runs fine....just makes a little more noise on one side. That side also happens to be the side it was hard to get to while sitting in the garage....not much room to work in, so I most likely dint get them just right.
