I just scored Vetter fairing from eBay. Mounting it on my XS750. Apparently motorcycle side harness is not included. I see new connectors can be had from Vetter.com but...

1. It seems to be slightly over priced and I am a cheap guy.
2. I need 3 pin connector for the Vetter trunk also but Vetter.com don't offer it

I googled and it appears to be Molex connector like this one.

The question is there are two pin sizes, 0.062 and 0.093. Does any one know which one for sure? I have a fairing side connector but not sure how to measure the pin size.

If your fairing connector is female, you can use a drill bit to size the pins. Just find a drill bit that fits snuggly in the terminal, and use a caliper to measure, and see if it is closer to one of the two sizes available. Some drill bits are also marked for the size, too.
If your connector is the male side, you would need to measure with a caliper to get that size, afaik.

Good idea. Thanks.

I have 5/64" then 7/64" bits. Definately too small for 7/64. 5/64 fits nicely I think. That means 0.078". I see there is one more pin size which is 0.084" so maybe that's it. It seems to be the same size as computer hard drive power connector pins. Will try RadioShack.

Yeah Radio Shack stores here pretty much sell only phones, T.V's, DVD players and batteries.

They even stopped carrying specialty watch batteries!

Bad moves IMO.

The salesman were always worthless but it was nice to have a place around the corner I could pick up a 12 volt pilot light or alligator clips. All my reasons for going there are gone

I haven't looked at RS online but that might be an option.

Different RS in different areas carry different stuff. We have one not too far from the shop that carries a TON of electronics/electrical gear, meaning parts, and such. Then I have one right down the street that carries nothing but phones, and car stereo stuff. :headscratch:

Looked up RS online. They do have 9 pin Molex connectors for $2.79.

Don't say what pin size, however. And they say "the item is available in most stores"
Let's see if the nearby one carries them. I bought toggle switches from them. They had several cabinets full of parts.
If I get lucky, I don't have to pay Mr. Vetter's marked up price.

Local hobby shops are going out of business. I guess you cannot do just retail for hobbyist items in this era of Internet commerce. Can't blame RS.

Update.

The RS nearby carried them. I bought a pair. The pin size seems to be around 0.09". However the connector shell itself is different and cannot be used with old Vetter connector. It appears old Vetter connector is rectangular whereas this RS one is perfectly square. I don't know now if old Vetter one is Molex. RS ones don't say Molex so I guess they are not Molex but RS original?

So I need to replace both male and female connector shells. Hopefully old Vetter pins work with the new shell then it's going to be just a shell change.
