I've read that metallic last longer but eat up the rotor. I like my rotors so I'll change pads more. I'm not a performance rider so they all stop fine for me. Just my $.02, Dave

That's minimum 4mm for regular brake rotors and minimum 9mm for Aspencade vented brake rotors. They ought to last you about 20-40,000 miles, dependant on how heavy you are on them. I personally do not know of a brand that you should avoid.
