how does that help me know which model it is?

Standard is a GL1100-D
Interstate is a GL1100I-D
Aspencade is a GL1100A-D
the 82 model is a "C" the 81 is a "B" and the 80 is an "A"
is that what you were asking?

i found a awesome little site on the web that decodes your vin number and tells you what you need to know. check it out and it will tell you https://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/honda.asp
