I am looking for more wind protection for my '82 naked. It has a Plexifairing III on now and I have it adjusted as high as I can but still get buffeting. I'm looking for that elusive, quiet, still air pocket. :Egyptian:

Is a Windjammer as good as a Hondaline? Is a 1200 Hondaline better than an 1100? Can a 1200 Hondaline be made to fit on an 1100? : :headscratch:

Thanks
Brian

Well I can't speak to the hondaline as I've never ridden behind one, but the windjammer is a very good fairing imho, however I am a bit biased towards them.

Buffeting is caused by the air pressure behind the windscreen. Gerry will have something to add, but I am sure he figured out the right setting on his plexifairing and not having any buffeting.

I too am biased towards the Windjammer...

Windjammer is a good bit noisier than a stock Honda with a Tulsa windshield, but still a nice fairing.

I haven't entirely eliminated buffeting behind my shields. But the one on my 1200 is very comfortable and keeps most of the wind off my hands.

I experimented a lot with my Plexi III. Several things I found out. Raise it up off the headlight at least 1 1/2", and tilt back a little past the fork angle.

I have also discovered that when on the highway at 75 + MPH, when I put my feet up on the crash bars all the way forward on my new footrests, the buffeting stops altogether. If I am in clean air (not behind another vehicle) at highway speeds, no buffeting.

My Vetter fairing had a lot of buffeting at highway speeds when I would take the lowers off for summer riding. But with the lowers on, buffeting reduced significantly.

It really is all about the low pressure behind the windshield. I am still working on lower deflectors made of acrylic, just have not found the best place to install.

Hmm...interesting about the affect of the lower area on the buffeting. Never would have thought about that. Also encouraging to hear that the Plexifairing can work so well.

Now, when I ride on the highway I am always experimenting with lowering my head into the still air and/or leaning forward so my face is closer to the top of the WS. But it doesn't seem possible to be in the still air and look over the top of the WS. Gerry are you looking over the top on yours.

Thanks for the observations.
Brian

Try leaning further back as well. Closer to the shield isn't always the calmest air. Adjust the bars and seat along with shield angle and height. There is a sweet spot.

I think the key is the space between the headlight and the windscreen. I have a windscreen for my Windjammer that has the pop-up vents and there is a difference as far as buffeting goes between the vents open and closed.

I've had some bike with very small screens provide a surprising amount of protection from buffeting. Keep trying different angles and height on screen bars and seat. You'll get it adjusted to you.

I look through my windshield. I can look over if I need to (rain or sun glare). But my head is positioned to look through, just below the top.

ya,i put my windshield back on,bugs, hurt at 75...and backroads at nite.bugs are getting bigger,or I,m getting older..anykind of shield, now a days is a must.to much s::t in the air... :salute: :music:

I notice how much more I need to clean my helmet visor when I ride the CBR instead of sitting behind all that protection of the Vetter screen on the Rats Nest ( even with 2 inches cut off the top)

Fixing buffeting issues are tough. I am very tall waisted and my helmet stays in the dirty air on my 1100. I usually cruise 70 to 80 mph, 70 is not too bad but extended 80+ runs are tiring.

I ran an extra tall Tulsa and baker air wings on my GL1800 and you could set the cruise on 100 and listen to the stereo buffet free. (On a closed course)

This Windjammer IV showed up in the local Kijiji for $25 so I took a chance and bought it. :Egyptian: The guy bought it new back in 1978 for his CB750, which he still has too.

So the first thing I need is a mounting bracket for the GL. If anyone reading this has one please let me know. Otherwise I will post in the buy/sell.

Any thoughts or advise will be appreciated. :music2:

Thanks
Brian

Goldwingking probably has the other parts you need. You'll need the wiring from the fair to headlight bucket too. I bought a set of WJ lowers from him a while back.

Good point Slabghost, I didn't think of him. I bought stuff from him when I first got my '82. He is in Canada, only one province away, so shipping wasn't too bad.

I got the wiring harness as well as all the paper and install manuals that came with it. Even the big plastic bag that it came in.

Thanks
Brian
