FYI Jeff, I didn't drop my exhaust all the way off and was able to swap them out in about an hour. I left the right side engine guard on, removed the left guard and removed all of the exhaust nuts. Positioned a jack under the crossover pipe and then removed the rear exhaust hanger bolts. I only dropped the exhaust enough to get the hinge pin out of the stand. The ride off bolted right in exactly the same as the OEM one.

The key to getting the bike on the stand was simply placing my hand at the front/center of the seat and pulling backwards.

UPDATE!

The more I used the stand, the less I like it, at least while pulling the trailer. Could not get up on the stand while attached to the trailer which is the main reason I bought this. Even at 24 lbs tongue weight, I still cannot get the bike up on the ride off stand.

Secondly, getting off the stand by "riding off" didn't work as well as I thought. Rear tire burns rubber trying to get it off and often just spins. I wonder if the stand is for my '82 or maybe it is for earlier models? I am assuming bike frame clearance might be different for a 1000 or the '80 and '81 models?

Either way, I ordered the Bates stand from Ebay and will be re-installing my OEM centerstand. I will be putting this one back up for sale in the "for sale" forum for $35 plus shipping when I pull it off.

No Joe, it is the Wingleader one which is a smaller version of the OEM stand and not adjustable.

I did not know there was a difference in center stands on the 1100`s. if true maybe mine wont work either..maybe we should measure each others..maybe we could make a swap if different.

Possibly!

mines a run off front stand ... i dont like what you guys are talking about and understand all of gerrys concerns .... on the trip i cold put mine on the stand without getting off the bike ... stand comes up everytime i ride off with it ..very safe really and wide .. and very good at gas station stops ....

Checked the parts fiche for the OEM centerstand and the '80 and '81 use part number 50500-463-000. But the '82 and '83 use a different part number....50500-MB9-000.

No measurements for the OEM, but a different part number does kinda indicate they are not the same size. I wonder if the Wingleader Ride Off was also based on the year and might also be different sizes.

Just checked the OEM Manuals and the ground clearance on the '80 and '81 is 5.7" and the '82 is 5.5". A little less for the '82......3/8"......not much, but enough to make the centerstand a different length.

Boy....the things you learn when you take your time! Last Saturday, I pulled the Wingleader center stand and re-installed my OEM centerstand. In the process, I dropped the exhaust a bit to get at the hinge pin for the stand. It was the third time i dropped the exhaust so I thought it a good idea to replace the copper crush washers. Reached up to pull the 1st one out and 2 came out with it!

Now, I have had this engine out twice now and I know I pulled the crush washers out. Well.......at least I know for fact I pulled at least 4 crush washer out before the last engine install and put in new ones.

Got up underneath with a strong flashlight and a sharp screw driver and worked it. HOLY MACKERAL!! I pulled 2 more sets of washers out of each exhaust hole!!! :help:

On my floor, I ended up with 12 very crushed washers!!

Got the OEM stand back on and 4 NEW washers and the exhaust tightened up nicely. Rode the bike to the airport to head out of town again and man it was quiet!! Imma guessing having all of those washers in there wasn't the best idea in the world! :smilie_happy:

BTW, here is a link to the thread where I have this stand for sale:
