    fuel in air intake

On my 79, I had that same problem. Would act like it was missing sometimes and fuel in the plenum. Turned out the fuel leak was caused by leaking seals between the manifold and carb body on #4 cylinder. Randakk's carb kit did the trick. Bella's been running perfect ever since. Though bad...

Well that was easy. Sportster muffler install and a question

Well went for a 100 mile ride today. I can see I need to cut the studs on the t-bolt clamps down about 1/2", so I stop putting grooves in the road. Went out to Point Reyes, enjoying the twisties a bit too much. Bad bad me. Bike is running really fine. The center stand did not drag once. but...

Well that was easy. Sportster muffler install and a question

Yes the center stand is still there. I leaned the bike over 35-40 degrees in the driveway and it still cleared the center stand foot on the left side. Right side is not an issue anyway. I'm not aggressive in the corners.

Well that was easy. Sportster muffler install and a question

I'm very happy that I still have Bella, A really great bike and so smooth on the road. All in all pretty, reliable for a 36 year old bike. It's my only motorized transportation. But then I work from home, er well boat. Yes I am only a little weird that way. I also just replaced the choke...

Well that was easy. Sportster muffler install and a question

On the ignition, it's like it turns a tad too far. Though it's been working fine today. Looks like I'll save that job for when the headset bearings are replaced. It's on my list with the new timing belts and fork seals, which I have but am waiting for the right day. Today was far too nice...

Well that was easy. Sportster muffler install and a question

So Bella, my 79 wing has had a holey exhaust, where the chrome connects to the header for a few years now. I knew it was getting bad, so after some (OK LOTS of) research, I decided to try the Sporster muffler swap. I ordered the mufflers from ebay for $26 for two new (less then 50 miles on...

Gl1000 Idle drops low when pulling up to a light

Darn Blonde moments. Ok, so it seems that somebody really did forget to tighten up the jam nut on the cross carburetor sync adjuster. When I checked the sync, the front to back sync on both sides were perfect. But the side to side was way off. So after messing for 10 minutes, playing find...

Gl1000 Idle drops low when pulling up to a light

I do have a mercury stick. I'll be checking that next week as my mercury stick is at a friends garage.

Gl1000 Idle drops low when pulling up to a light

When I rebuilt the carbs I triple checked the float height. I leaned the crabs over at an angle on the bench and made a gauge to check the float height. Then laid them flat and back at an angle again twice more to check and adjust again. They were as close to perfect as I could get. Measure...

Gl1000 Idle drops low when pulling up to a light

The air cleaner looks fine, or did the last time I looked at it oh 1000 miles ago. It only has maybe 2500 miles on the air cleaner. For 4-5 years there I did not ride the bike that much. Shameful I know. The bike starts easy with choke and gets good gas mileage now too. So very happy I...

Gl1000 Idle drops low when pulling up to a light

Bella my 1979 Goldwing, which is my daily driver, well its my only driver, just because I'm weird that way, Runs great. However lately when coming up to a light, the idle will drop below 500 rpm and sometimes what to die. If I blip the throttle is settles down and idles perfect at 950-1000...

1978 GL1000 smoking bad from left pipe

Just a note that before I rebuilt my carbs and replaced the plenum rubber, My 79 Gl1000 would lay out a massive smoke cloud out the exhaust. Plus gas mileage was sub 15 mpg. Found out it was leaking from the fuel O-rings between the penum and carbs on #4. Replaced the plenum gaskets, well OK...

So now that I'm keeping the wing, what next??

It really is amazing just how much better it runs now. Its been at least 5 years, ok probably longer since it ran so well. Plus no smoke on startup now, which is a big plus.

So now that I'm keeping the wing, what next??

Well after a few months of waiting for parts, My wing is back on the road and runs really well. I've got a light pop on the left side at idle from one carb, so I'll see about that tomorrow after the bike cools down. But off idle throttle response is great and it has lots O power now and no...

So now that I'm keeping the wing, what next??

OH YES Baby!!. So the new Randakk's carb rebuild kit came in Friday. Yesterday I took the carbs apart replaced the O-Rings and the $%^&* manifold fuel o-rings that was leaking. Also found where one fuel passage in the manifold had some gunk in it. Cleaned everything up and resembled...

So now that I'm keeping the wing, what next??

well progress anyway. Now that I have a little money, I pulled the carburetor top off #3 and put a some tissue on the body per a suggestion here. Lo and behold it IS the plenum fuel o-rings leaking. So ordered a full rebuild set today and fingers crossed in a week, my wing will be back on the...

So now that I'm keeping the wing, what next??

OK After first posting my wing for sale and then getting cold feet and deciding to keep it, my task is to get the carbs from leaking fuel. When I first got my wing 10 years ago, I rebuilt the carbs. I used after market jets as the ones in there, well a few needle valves were corroded. Plus I...

1979 Honda Goldwing GL1000 for sale

Ah, I've had the carbs apart twice, adjusted all the floats twice (yes the right way too), new o rings, etc, but did not touch the plenum. For the life of me I can't get the carbs to not leak fuel. I've done the carb rebuilds in the past and life was good. The new float bowl gaskets were all...
