The thing I like most about the old bikes is that you cant just walk into a store and buy one, usually. There is something cool and timeless about an old machine that requires a relationship to own. Having an old bike is a true commitment and you have to get to know the machine, and I have truly enjoyed that experience. For years I had maintenance free bikes that I was just able to get on and go with no real worries, and that is all fine but the feeling of pride I get from my old machines is something that simply cannot be replicated on a show room floor. Never ever, not one single time when I rode a Harley Heritage Soft-tail, Honda Shadow Aero 1100, Suzuki Marauder 800, did anyone stop and ask me about my bike because it was just like any other bike off the floor. When I take out my GL1000 I get asked about what it is, where I got it, what I have done to it, how to work on it, and where can I get one! I like being able to share that experience and the bike truly tells a story. It's not for every one and there is nothing wrong with buying a new bike but for me, I don't think I can ever beat the satisfaction and pride I feel in reviving and maintaining my own machines. Also, the community of goldwing owners is something that must be experienced to be appreciated. Never with any other machine have I felt so supported by a group of like minded individuals as I have with my wings. This is why I will be a winger for life... :thanks:
