1200 engine in 83 frame?

I’m presuming 1200’s started in 1984 ?
I just purchased what appears to be an an 83, neck tag says 83 but engine is a 1200.
Let me know what’s going on here.

I’m replying to myself lol… believe the po was trying to build this thing. He gave me a tub of extra parts and appears as though he did stuff a 1200 into an 83 frame and then was about to rewire with gl1200 wiring harness as that’s what’s in the tub.
Just gave up. One heck of a deal too…. Two wings for only $300 but no plastics came with bikes.
Time for another build
