I know I read it somewhere, but I be darned if I can find it now...

My 84 1200 Standard and Interstate motorsonly have three wires coming out of the bottom of the motor. I assume: neutral, OD, and oil pressure. Is that correct? Why does an Aspencade motor have 6 wires in that harness?

Never knew there was a gear indicator other than neutral & OD. :nea:Only Aspencade i've owned is a 91,not there, would be a nice feature on any bike, like being able to adjust air in forks with onboard compressor, on 1200 Aspy's.

Me too, Joe. The newer (85-87?) had gear indicators. It sent info to the computer to aid in timing. I tried ( a little) getting mine to read for me with no luck. Not sure if they were supposed to be hot or ground or one hot etc. I would like to have a neutral light.

it was easy for me to deal with the motor wires ...i tied it around the frame lol..hooks up great there

The old adage, (kiss) keep it simple stupid has it's merits, look at all that extra wire. :hihihi: Know a guy that was having a starting problem, turned out to be an old crumbling fuse. Offered him an extra from my bike, as always carry a few, said no thanks. :nea: Walked into his garage, picked up small a piece of wire, cut, stripped the ends, & used it as a fuse. Said you could have a real issue with that letting too much current go through to something. :whistling: His answer was, i wont have any problem seeing where the problem is, :Doh2: i had to agree  Been there for years now :smilie_happy:

personally i feel a fuse is nothing more than a bad connection ...i really dont use them much at all ...things do better without built in weak spots on purpose ...the keep it simple thing is to use as little as needed to get the job done at its highest level...todays tech is totally the other way ..built in failure ...computer chips replace solid never to wear out hook ups ... monitoring system to keep up info on the device ...only to learn its the monitors that go bad as the problem ..cars and bikes today are built about as stupid as they can be ...all one has to do is look at what happen to a simple fuel pump in 50yrs of techno retardation in engineering ...turn a 20$ replacment cost into a 1000$ ...and this is one of the least things turned into a nightmare tech...all kinds of excuses to why ....but most of this is pure bs

every FI project for a oldwing ive seen has turned into a nightmare project it seems ...in the end most dont do good ..or a dead end project that just stops and they never do become a working bike.....and it amazes me how so many still see this as better than a simple carb ....when almost none are on the road ...and ive never seen one vid of one doing something better than a stock bike after thousands spent....

so to me ..i see todays thinking as the worse thing in reliability....most people are so the otherway ..they just wont except proven simplisity and just say anything to discount one that obviously is better than stock...vids to of bike running and doing what it dose at a high level....

i seen a thread at ngw where it was posted that the dual weber set up was the only proven better carburation over stock set up...why cause someone did a dyno test on it ..sheesh dynos do not tell the measure of better....they dont come close to doing that ....the only thing that dose is a dragstrip test results ...minus the reaction time ..so the bike is the only thing measured ...plain and simple...this is what the bike dose ...not dyno runs ....stock carbs do rather well up top and can put some good hp numbers up ...but this is no measure of how it gets there ...a bike like mine that has simple carb set up reliant on nothing can produce the same hp figure as stock or even a bit less maybe and beat the crap out of stock carbs in a strip run ...

this is not to pic on stock carbs ..but they are not simple in operation and cause very slow operation by there design ..something simple dose not have those hurdles to contend with and are quicker if dial in right for gas charge ....

im truely a keep it simple guy and the reliability of my bike proves this out at the very top in performace per effort ..id take my bike anywhere and fill id get there with no problems no matter how far it is :thanks:

Well no fuse can mean a bike up in flames, especially the main fuse. The only time I'd risk a bypass or no fuse is to get somewhere where I could install one and even then only if the fuse didn't blow for a good reason.

I like KISS method. Often when I'm having trouble with something, taking a time out to stop thinking so much about it solves the problem :smilie_happy:

Agree with the use of a main fuse, personal choice, :whistling: cheap insurance. :good:

There is a post on here or NGW that tells which color wires off the neutral switch are for which gears. This was for an '83 aspy. I took the neutral switch from my 83 interstate and put it on my 83 standard and now I have neutral, overdrive and the low pressure warning from the shock switch. Trying to keep it simple by using 3 wiring diagrams and correct wire colors...
