think with the rim broke like this the bike is junk? might go get it,, pretty reasonable,,

That looks like a pothole or similar edged obstacle impact, so it probably has bent forks. Other than that, I would expect the rest of the bike to be consistent with the age, mileage, and maintenance performed. Front rims and forks are available and fairly cheap. I wouldn't be afraid to look at it if it were closer.
