If it's a relay the book cannot be right. Ohming through the coil side should have some resistance. Energized the other side should have continuity and almost zero resistance. Not energized it's an open switch.

I checked the left 2 pins for continuity...nothing.
then it said to put 12v to the right 2 pins and check continuity again on the left pins, this time there was continuity.
The book said that both test should have had no coninuity...and if there was any either time...to replace the relay. Now...where do I find one??

That there is the main relay and two wires are across the coil - they should always have continuity - when voltage is applied the relay changes state and the other two should have continuity as well - check out the diagram here https://www.goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewt ... f=5&t=5464

Hello there fella and welcome to the site, sometimes I use a test light to figure if one wire is hot or not...You know those little test light thingy's..????

Thanks for all the ideas...we have a good repair shop in town here and they had it fixed in 45 minutes!! They said there was short "somewhere" and they didn't seriously go looking for it...but it blew the fuse once...since then it works fine?? They also took the relay apart and cleaned it up etc...he said I don't really need the relay but if I wanted to replace it anyway...go for it or leave it out all together. Thanks again to all of you!!
