1988 GL1500 - No reverse

Reverse worked last fall before layup and battery removal. Re-installed battery and tried to back it out of the storage area. Turned the key on, pulled the reverse lever up and hit the starter button, NOTHING!!

Bike starts and runs fine, just no reverse. Checked the Steve Saunders website and the problem is not uncommon. Much talk about the switch on the reverse lever needing cleaned, but the "R" in the dash goes out when you put the lever up. That switch is working.

Any thoughts from anyone?

Well...what was it? Sometimes I wish I had reverse on the Valkyrie. Been stuck nose into a couple of spots.

The bike must be in neutral with the motor running before you pull the reverse lever up and hit the starter. Had a massive brain drain over the winter, apparently.
