82-83 interstate..

there is a an extra two wires coming from the light/horn/signal box not on the 80-81 standard box
It is separate from the larger bundle...
Any idea where it goes/what it does?

it isn't the radio mute switch which is separate and not coming from the box.

I can post a pic if needed.

thanks

I checked my 83I and the 83 parts bike which both have a separate wire from the control.
I opened the left control on the parts bike but can't quite see where those 2 wires go but in wiring diagram it say's that Blue with black stripe and the green are from the horn button with the Blue/black going to the signal cancel unit.
What it does after the cancel unit is anyone's guess, why it goes there is odd.

If you tell us what your doing like if your putting a 83 control on an 81 we could figure out how to make it all work.

interesting.

I looked at that schematic in my clymers manual.....though didn't quite get it. My eyes/brain just gloss over some details sometimes.

I have a naked 80-81 wiring harness so I am not sure I can hook up a self canceling device.

I have extra parts so I might have something that would work.

I have a couple small black boxes approx 3/4" by 2.5" x 3.5" mas o menos... maybe??

The other reason is the 80-81 switch housing is cracked. I bought one but I can't find it, but I do have this other one from a parts bike but it is off an 83 interstate.

thanks for the info. Cool to have parts bikes-as long as you know where everything goes. I am beginning to forget - the bike has been apart so long. That is why I have an 83 interstate runner.

Because of the addition of self cancel in the 83 control I see the hookups changed quite a bit.

Wonder if the 81 internals would fit inside the 83 housing?
This way wiring could remain untouched.

JD - I know you know what I'm talking about!

I found it. The funny thing is I was looking at the end i.e. wires hanging out of my bookcase - not the switch end. Of course after I went through all the other boxes of parts in my garage and everywhere else.
I thought/assumed it was from my 78 GL1000 - cause I had put one in the same place - I think or thimk......or I'm 60 and I FORGOT!

Anyway I am going with this one....

thanks!

onward and upward.

next up - make a socket for the swingarm, install the gastank/wiring harness/rebuild some carbs/assemble the tripple tree......etc.
