75 to 77 seat styles

I have noticed, or I THINK I have noticed, that there are two different seat styles on the early Wings. If I’m not mistaken, the 75 and 76 had a flat seat and the 77 had a bit of a stepped seat. The 77 also appears to have an additional chrome accent piece on the back of the seat that the earlier ones didn’t have. Am I imagining things? When I search for seat covers all I see are ONE type. 75-77. I wouldn’t mind having a flat seat, but since my slightly stepped seat has a nice base, I would prefer to just find a decent cover and re-do the original seat. Please steer me in the right direction here. (My seat can be seen in my photo gallery)

I think the LTD (and maybe the '77) had a very slight rise. The '78 and '79 more marked.
But, this is supposed to be a 51 mile museum quality '77

this fellow did a comparison few years ago. very informative. i rarely comment on ngw anymore.

Yes! Excellent reference!

BTW, to the OP, you transfer your chrome strips from the old to the new seat. They don't come with the covers. Be careful straightening the little pegs that hold them on, and those can be reused also.

Great reference. There's even a few pictures from me of my '83 seat in there.

Have you asked a local upholsterer to recover? We have one in a town to my south that will redo the seats of anything on wheels and has won awards!

Thanks, guys! I knew I could count on you! That tells me that I do indeed have the correct seat, although the cover is not correct. Now, this brings me back to my problem of finding a nice seat cover... ( I’ve redone several seats with great results) Every listing I can find, including Randakk’s and David Silver Spares, and all Ebay listings say 75-77. I find it hard to believe that a seat cover from a 75-76 is going to fit a 77. Has anybody else run into this problem?

Okay... in my INFINITE wisdom, I did a search for 1976 GL1000 LTD seat cover and lo and behold, thar she is!
Now I need to find a strap and hardware... anybody have that stuff laying around? My seat is totally without strap.

Most of the seat covers I have seen came with straps and buckles. Check with the vendor.

All of the covers I can find for the 76 LTD come with the strap but no buckles. At least the buckles aren’t pictured. I think I’ll do what you said and check with the vendor.

I just received my seat cover from an Ebay vendor for a 1976 LTD and the damn thing is BROWN!
According to the write up referenced above, NO GOLDWING EVER HAD A BROWN SEAT. Do any of you guys with LTD’s have brown seats?
Now I’m back to square one trying to find a BLACK seat cover to fit a 77. And I have to ship this one back to China. That should be fun...
