I keep my bike on the trickle charger until I ride. Does anyone know of any kind of indication if the stator is going bad? like maybe bad radio noise? I've noticed my bike do this. yesterday it started about ten miles out... I stopped and put the fuse in for the headlight,, and started the taillight. (have to wiggle the key) - so I increased the load. After that noise went away and back to ? 12.2-12.5 volt's.. guess maybe the only advice you may be able to give me is if things are alway's constant or not.. right now it's showing almost 14 on the charger.. I've seen where it seems to be charging idle speeds,, and sometimes the gauge will drop to 12 or under,, and you have to rev to bring it up.. thinking about riding it to mich.. actually think it's alright,, just the nature of the beast. maybe my question should be,, "if the charging system goes out,, is it all at once"? thanx :Egyptian:

I would check all your connections , the three yellow wires coming from the stator are to the left of the battery, check inside the plug and see if there is any heat damage, check your battery and regulator connections as well.
Not always is the problem from the stator, also check and be sure your stop lamp switch isnt stuck on, heavy lighting loads can cause the brake light switch to fail.

battery connection's both seemed kinda loose.. esp. the pos. battery is 11 mo. old. the far positive side cell is down 1/4 where it should be.. (battery needs acid) it reads 13.2+ on the bench. im getting 15.5 volt readings @ 3000 13.7@ 860. As far as the stator wires,, I was planning on doing an ohm test at the connector next to the battery,, the lock on the connector seems broke,, and it really doesn't seem to want to come apart ,, so I think I should just leave it for now.

thanx Dan,, I got that connector apart,, found some corrosion on one and cleaned. added more acid to the low battery. see how far that take's me.. it's an awful nice bike,, worth all the effort I been putting in... even has a lil turtle wax on her now,, (spilled some)..
