Well...I've said it before, but THIS time, it's the real deal. I have, FINALLY, seen it ALL! :ahem:
We got a new guy at the shop last week...'posed to be good....I now have to wonder about some folk's idea of "Good". :builder:
2002 Musturd we did a clutch job in a few months back. Comes in with a noise, eventually determined to be the throw out bearing. Out comes the trans/clutch, in goes a new clutch assy. I hear them fire it up around 5pm. Around 5:45, one of the guys comes to me and says it won't go into gear. I say bleed the clutch. He say "Ain't hydraulic...it's a cable." I say set the self adjuster. He say won't move. I gives up and walks out there to see whuts whut. Sure nuff, pedal is nice and snug...clutch should be werkin, but it ain't. Pedal to the floor, and it will not allow gear engagement. So, they raise it up for me to check out the fork/cable. I sees it has a new aftermarket cable, which does away with the self adjuster, and the cable is tight. If anything, the clutch should be slipping. Only suggestion I have is the guy put the clutch disc in backerds.
Out comes the trans...off comes the bellhousing...off comes the clutch pressure plate...off comes the clutch disc...oh...wait...the disc isn't coming off...not coming off....still not coming offf....HUH? :headscratch:
Two screwdrivers and a pry bar later, off comes the disc. Has some kind of funky stuff on it, between the disc and flywheel. I ax if the disc had a sticker/decal on it that said "Flywheel side", as they sometimes do. "NO...no sticky". Hmmmm
Take me pocket screwdriver, and scrape some of the stuff off the disc. Looks amazingly enough like Lock-Tite.....and it is. I had given the new guy a new bottle of Lock-Tite earlier...apparently, I didn't specifically tell him to NOT put it on the disc, or the flywheel.
Yeppers...the disc had lock-tited itself to the flywheel, with a little help from a guy that 'posed to be good.....
NOW....he also twisted off some of the pressure plate bolts in the flywheel....also dipped in lock-tite.
Guess who gets the blame?
Thaaaas rite...ME....I gave the stuff to him.... oh2:
Top THAT one!
I will say...this has to be a really good testimonial for Lock-Tite!
