I rode my first real motorcycle, a 150 dream for quite a while with no clutch cable, couldn't afford one. It was electric start so I just put it in gear and pushed the button or got it rolling and popped it in gear. Shifted by throttle and coming to a stop just pop it in neutral while still rolling. I rode an 1100 I had just got running several miles without the clutch, the ball popped out at the lever on the trans, no problem shifted like normal. My 83 did not shift well without the clutch, neither does my 1800 especially downshifting but my 81 and 82 both do.
