3 Valves per cyl. ???? man thats sure different . Yamaha built a bike 20 or so years ago called a Fazer i think , it had 5 Valves per cyl. . . they looked like Lug Nuts on a car wheel . . i wondered which got the extra Valve , Intake or Exhaust . I got a friend who has a Pacific Coast , and he loves it , says its Light and really Handles well . :laptop:
 
The 1997 Yamaha YZF1000R was the first 5 valve per cylinder engine 2 intake and 3 exhaust it also had an exhaust relief valve on the collector to help equilize the pressure for more even flow. the engine was the Genesis series with the EX/UP exhuast made 145hp. iIt was the prequal to the R1

Yep, I rode an 2003 Yamaha FZ1 up until about 1 year ago and it had an ex/up in the exhaust. They have to be serviced occassionally.
