My Wing has been bulletproof reliable requiring only preventative maintenance, and I am grateful. However lately it has developed an annoying problem I have yet to resolve. I am a big man and have never had any trouble putting it up on, or pulling it off the centerstand. Recently I noticed when up on the centerstand it the bike felt unstable like it could tip. It has always felt pretty stable ordinarily. From that it has progressively became very difficult to, get this: take down off the centerstand. I have to really exert a lot of effort to make it come forward and off the stand. Putting it up is a little harder than usual, but taking off is becoming nearly impossible. This doesn't really make a lot of sense to me, I have put on the sidestand and looked over thoroughly, tried to check for something broken (saw nothing wrong) all to no avail. I guess I am stumped, what could be the problem???????

hmmmm well im not sure .... but the thing is mounted on what seems a big tube ... but in reality its very thin ..rust through easy ... and suffers from slowly crushing down witch would make hard to get down for sure

I may just have to take it off and have a closrr look.
Something is wrong and different I just can't spot it while it's in place.

Be careful!! I would think your cross tube on your centerstand is about to fail! Look under the bike at the cross tube back by the tire (looking straight up) and see if there are any tears in the metal.

The conditions you are experiencing are the same as I had right before mine failed. Here is my thread on my stand and the repairs. I set it to take you right to the pictures:

Agreed. Get it off and inspect it. Might be damaged or just in need of a little grease. Don't want the bike falling over when / if it fails.

I just simply can't see any damage while it's on the bike. I am going to have to remove it.
Speaking of: What a PITA this procedure appears to be. Remove engine guards, Take of down exhaust system, Finally pull cotterpin and drive out shaft.

Does anyone know if I can reuse the exhaust gaskets?

AArrrgh. Doing this on the garage floor should be a real challenge. :head bang:

With the ordering of replacement parts this will likely keep my bike idle for a while. I don't like that.
I considered just blowing this off and using the sidestand, but it would bug me until I fixed it.

I have reused copper crush gaskets with no trouble, I think Gerry has a whole bunch extra if you need them..can you use a mirror to look underneath.

I have used mirror, lights etc. I can't see any damage externally.

I have considered laying the bike over on her right side.

I might buy a table lift, but I would rather not.

After reading about broken exhaust header studs I sprayed down and the fasteners and they all came loose. I still can't get the dang left side exhaust loose or off, and I'm aggravated. Maybe the equalizer midpipe is frozen/rusted up. I thought I could just drop the left side down and get access but so far that isn't working out.

hmmmmm ..yes its very difficult on stuck crossovers on 1100 exhaust to get them out or to deal with in.... my exhaust i found the right size freeze plug and pluged the cross over ...and deform the cross pipe a bit so they cant blow out ... and the exhaust on my bikes comes right off easy ...ive never seen a big need for the crossover to justify the trouble dealing with it ..hang in there terry ...

Ok, after an very extended wrestling match with the exhaust I finally separated the left side from the right, wow.

I removed the centerstand and upon a casual glance nothing appears to be damaged. What the _______??

Came in to cool off, calm down, and have some lunch.

Maybe I will scrutinize it carefully a little later. Color me bewildered.

Oh, BTW thanks for the tip of laying it over Dan, it was a big help in several ways. Stood it back up afterwards, not too bad at all. Stable, easier to see and work on stuff.

Chapter 2 later thanks everyone for the ideas etc. so far.

If the centerstand mount is looking OK, the cross bar that it's attached to might be slightly twisted forward, which would make it more difficult to push off. The damage might also be difficult to see. I'm looking for a pic of my frame to show the correct angle of the mount...

Unfortunately, you are correct. Twisted and cracked. :fiddle:

Thar she blows!!!!

Kinda thought that is what you would find. There is a thread over at NGW where someone ended welding in a pipe instead. Thankfully, Steve83 had a section from a frame for me that I was able to weld in when mine collapsed.
