I feel this is the appropriate section because I see this as a PSA.

In the above ad there a picture of a 33K speedo on the bike and it is listed as a 33,000 mile bike. Then you can find this picture in the same ad...

I call shenanigans! Look at the other pictures, this is not a 33,000 mile bike, and I don't think this fools any of you either. However this ad could fool a new Winger. I wish there was a way to call these guys out in their ads. Some of this nonsense just might end.

~O~

...I got into the union and I'm kinda looking for a future girlfriend.

Sure, but how many of us have had to replace our speedos? When I sold Old Girlfriend on the bill of sale I clearly noted "True mileage unknown, speedometer has been replaced." That bike may have more replaced parts than Joe's girl. The ad says to me, 33,000 miles on what? The engine, frame or even the seat?

~O~

I don't know. 33K miles could just be the mileage, whether it has been torn down, cleaned up, and put back together, or not. I have completely dis-assembled bikes with less mileage than this, just to go though everything and make sure there are no surprises, and to service everything that goes bad from sitting. I'd suspect if there was any tomfoolery about it, he would not have posted pics of the bike dis-assembled. I would almost feel better aboput something that has been thoroughly gone through, than something that has been sitting untouched for 20 years, regardless of mileage shown on the speedo. Maybe this guy feels the same way? Does not seem to be hiding anything, as far as I can see.

Of COURSE it's not the original speedometer.

In 1982, Honda had to abide by US regulations where speedometers could only read to 85mph.

This speedometer is from a different year.... most likely a 1983.

It has '83 wheels, so it may have been titled incorrectly, or a storage lien title. The guy may not even know what we know as older Honda owners. A previous owner may have changed some things as well. I have bought plenty of bikes that the seller was pretty clueless as to what he actually had. It appears he has listed it as best he knows how. I don't get any impression from the ad of fraud or deception. If the storage pics are how he found it, looks like he did a half-decent job of making a whole bike out of it. The price is no more than I would expect for a place like Las Vegas, maybe even less.

It has 1983 wheels and valve cover guards ?

What years had those guards?

It can't be too crappy...it has new bowel gaskets!

It looks to be an '83, with lots of aftermarket parts on it. The wheels, front end, and speedo are all '83.

Back in 2012, I bought what was claimed to be an '81 parts bike, which turned out to be an '80. It had 37K on the speedo, and it had been sitting since '89. When I opened up the engine, it looked new inside, so it was, indeed, a 37K bike. I've seen many bike and car ads with the wrong year listed. Ya never know...

When I go through a bike it gets new oil and filter when put back together...

Found Mr. Money Bags! :smilie_happy:

But seriously, I don't think I can recall the last motorcycle I bought that didn't get an oil change and filter as one of the first maintenance tasks.

83 was the first year that have the vertical pipe added to them.
