The bags are finally done and installed. Pictures are coming, but right now I have the bike tucked into the corner of the garage as I wait for Sandy to go by.

The next decision I need to make is picking the right trunk that will look okay with the new Bates bags. I am not really sold on the idea of a Bates trunk, but I know the Vetter trunk isn't going to work at all (Square straight lines of the Vetter clash with the rounded curves of the Bates bag). I was thinking Honda line, but even those lines look different. There is always the possibility of having no trunk at all, but the bags aren't big enough for a 3/4 helmet and when I go camping, I need more room.

Any ideas?

Make the bike how you want it with a removable receiver hitch.

Search the web and stop in at any independent bike shops in your area. I got my fairing and trunk from an independent BMW shop near me. He's got a nice collection of vintage after market add ons from the 70's and 80's. Good stuff cheap! :Egyptian:

That's the stuff I am looking for. I have seen some early 70's Bates trunks that would look okay, but I am not sold on that yet.

I have the trailer too, but not sure that I always want to use it. For a long trip sure, but for a short weekend camping trip maybe not.

I think I would be able to without the gas motor and battery. The boat itself only weighs less than 100 pounds but get the gas motor and the battery for the trolling motor might be a bit too much. I doubt I'll ever try it for anything more than a photo.

Well the sun finally came out while I was with the bike so I was able to get a picture that looks pretty decent. So he is the new look with the Bates Bags.

I used Minwax Spray Poly. So far no problems with it. I guess the real test will come later this winter when it gets cold.
