Did a nice run around after my carb issues but......

If anyone has a pic of the radiator wings. I know mine doesn't have them I would like to see what they are. Does the chrome grill mean you have to remove them?

The Honda fairing doesn't use them, it uses the fairing lowers to direct air into the radiator which doesn't work all that great. I added the wings to mine with the Honda fairing which keeps the engine very cool even in 100 plus temps.
The Standard models did come with the wings, not sure what Vetter fairings have if anything.

The Vetter fairings have lowers, but do not work the same as Honda. The Vetter is designed to fit a Standard which would have deflectors already.

I have checked my radiator, pump and thermostat housing for temps witha thermo gun. The T-stat opens at 205 degrees at the radiator (195 degree t-stat) and does not close until temps get back down to 189 degrees. You could put in a manual gauge from a parts store in to check temps.

Anybody know what the temp should be when the gauge is reading 1/4, and or 1/2?

As in what is optimal efficiency temperature? 205-189 range? What would be overhot?

I picked up an infrared thermometer at HF. Thanks for the tip.

Do I need to take the fairing off to do the gauge?

I played with the infra red meter on a couple bikes and found it would show about 210 at the fins when the fan would kick on. The dash gauge would be just over 3/4 at that point.
My readings were with the sensor right against the fins so the rock screen needs to be off.

I shined the laser on the water intake top and bot after riding - fan was on -175 bottom hose more or less the same. the readings did jump around a bit.

the gauge was 1/2 or just above.

put the box fan on it. bike fan shut off. came on just above 1/2 to almost 3/4.

I got a reading of 205 on top of the motor just behind the carbs on both sides.

the outside temp was 55/6. I rode around 10 miles a little longer in one stretch not just around the neighborhood. the gauge was just above 1/4. Seems like it is cooling.. If I put the rad wings / lowers on then cooler still.

I think I have a bike~! I was probably over thinking the issue given just coming off the carb saga.. Seems like my gauges are ok then if you guys experiences are the guide!

On to the next thing....brakes and front fork adj....

Let's ride~! :clapping: :clapping:
