I found a guy with a set of carbs, airbox, k&n filter, electric fan and valve covers from an '82 GL1100 for $150. According to the PO, his dad removed the stuff to install a supercharger back in '84 so the stuff is clean and looks damn near new.

I figured since my carbs have almost 73K miles on them it would be nice to have another set sitting around ready to go.

I'm just wondering if this was a decent price and is there anything I should do to the carbs to make sure they're ready to roll?

Thanks for any advice or opinions y'all can give me. :)

That's a decent deal.
If they were pulled off back then they are probably ready to run as is but I'd at least adjust the floats because in shipping they get banged around. Good time to see if there's any crud in the bowls and if the guy was telling the truth.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I second the advise to open the bowls and check for any crud. Maybe a light spray of oil on the carbs and wrap in plastic before you shelve them will help keep them corrosian free and useable until they are needed.

Sounds like a great deal, but I think they may still require a bit of work.Even with the low miles.they have had gas in them and been run,and then sat for 26 years.Unless he clean them up back in 84 when they where shelved, they still may have a little gunk in them and have dried up gaskets and rubber parts, like the needles.Still a great buy as there should be very little wear or erosion.I would have bought them to.

I went through everything and it all looks good! The carbs were cleaned and packed in bubble wrap, they look like they just came from the factory. There's a bunch of brackets, valve cover bolts and other odds and ends as well. I'm pretty happy with everything.
