On my 83 gl 1100 im not going with the fairing on it so I have to put a headlamp on well the fairing weight is on still and I noticed a bunch of the wiring is behind it can I take it off? If so how can I hide that wiring?
 
You can certainly take it off, what to do with the wireing I dont know..some kind of decorative cover, I`m guessing it is wireing from extra things found on the dressed bike that you really dont need, If it were me I would trace them and cut out what I didnt need, abandon the rest and tape it up, unless you feel comfortable doing that the only other thing would be to leave them alone and cover them somehow.
 
If you get an OEM headlight bucket then the wiring would be in the bucket and the headlight over it to protect it.. if you have a friend or two with cb models ask to look behind the headlight.... you will see what I mean.. and go ahead and trace the wiring because Zman is right some of the wiring is for the fairing extensions...
 
I am a visusal kind of guy, so maybe this will help too:

The wiring harness gets fed through the holes in the back of the bucket and keeps everythin out of the weather. When you have all those wires stuffed inside the bucket, it can be a tight fit, so like the others mentioned, it would help to thin the herd and get rid of the wiring that is not needed.
 
Cool. That works cause when I tare the bike down this winter I want to make it to were the only wiring on it is for the lights and the engine. Nomore than whats needed to go down the road anyway.

One other thing, before you do any modifications I would get it running first,headlight high/low on,turn signals working,brake and front running lights, horn ect. then take it back apart to do the wire modifications/cutting. Pull back enough of the loom sheathing exposing enough of the wires you plan to cut and cut them slightly staggered so once your wrap it back up they cant touch or interfere with each other.

It will also help keep everything neat and tiddy looking also. :good:
 
One thing you can do is to stuff all the connector blocks under the front end of the shelter, then add some wire extensions to the headlight shell for headlight and turn signals.
