well made my longest ride yet Wichita ks to Concordia ks, solo, and ended up getting 113 miles from the first tank, at ~85 mph. have to say about 85 because of that little peg there, touched it a few times, and sat the needle on it and let is sit for about twenty miles. first rest stop 66 miles out, found ten bucks on the ground and on the way back from the bathroom got stung by two bees and swarmed by several. truckers up tere in their cabs laughing about me swinging my arms and screaming obscenities...

after that first 120 miles (was hot as hell), temp gauge never got over 1/2, I put the fairing lowers back on ad if your asking me it seemed to help te radiator breathe better. last 30 miles different story, hell on earth, surrounding thunderstorm on 4 sides and somehow stayed dry and on the bike, ican only estimate wind speeds at approx three hundred mph, it started raining on me 3 miles from destination. dropped speed down to 70 mph for that last part.

I didn't experience a 'wobble' or a 'vibration', I can only describe it as an 'oscillation'. what should I be looking at after I get home to find the cause, or is this normal?

Funny thing about truckers , they probably got on the CB and urged any nearby truckers about the swarm and to stop for the show, not alot of entertainment on the road.
Glad your OK though..Them killer bees are worse, had an itch on the back of my neck the other day and found a tiny talon looking thing,Looked like a large bee stinger but I was in the desert so maybe a small scorpion.
Good to hear it is coming together, There will be a time you just hop on and think..."I haven't had to work on this bike in a year"
Well that's what I hear they are capable of.

Wait you fell for the $10 on the ground at the rest stop trick? Bees have been pullin that stunt fer years, I'm surprised you fell for it. :hihihi:

Sounds like a nice trip otherwise. :rocks:

Pffft...fallin for the $10 stinger. :Doh2:

yeah I did notice that I'm missing the wheel weights from when they mounted my rear tire to the rim. it seemed very much to the front though, but that may have just been my perception. I actually never looked for a fork brace. wind and road grooves could be a possibility, but it was for most of the ride that I was noticing it. I had experienced one small wobble passing a semi, but a death grip on the handlebars arrested it. leads to a good question, are you supposed to gun it or let off the gas when you get a wobble?

question: I used the search function first but didn't come up with anything, how to tighten up those pesky floppy gl1100 hondaline fairing mirrors? I dismounted them at the two Phillips head bolts flipped them over and remounted them, maintaining left at left and right at right, would swapping left for right help or is there further disassembly possible, maybe place some piece of rubber to use to arrest the movement somewhat? I really don't want to glue in position but if that's what it comes to...

the second leg of the trip was 98 miles and I had to adjust the mirrors before I left and twice on the road, once I had to do it while moving! dangerous it seems to me to continue on like this. I have a few hours downtime right now before the final 177 mile leg of the journey tonight,

visited my little brother in concordia and got a pic next to his 2006 shadow 750

last night stayed with my dad and tonight is his surprise birthday party at his girlfriends (lets just not talk about what I think of her, just going for my dad)

Trying to remember...it seems like you can remove the screw and install a washer to tighten the spring up. Some might have rivets instead of screws, or are pressed together...

I think your right Steve, the Emgo replacements mirrors may be the one with rivets but the stock should have a screw, I like the washer trick..I just tightened the screw a tiny bit and mine they now holds but if it loosens later I`ll have to try a washer or something.

BP great pic of your GW and your brothers Shadow. Don't be too harsh on your Dad, as men we all get to make bad decisions when it comes to sex!!

took off the left mirror and founda ten millimeter bolt pictured here, torqued it down like I was some type of sex deprived monkey with a 3/8 ratchet, mirror couldn't move so I backed it off a little, it weren't even finger-tight, loose as a goose. I haven't gone Rodin yet but I'm sure I found a solution.

(there was an attachment but I got that screen what happens when somebody posts during the time you are writing your post and t disappeared)

yeah I got to swing my leg over it and go around town a bit while visiting, I really wish I had one or around town, it seems quicker than the goldwing and I like the v-twin sound but putting a radio on there would be useless. it looks air-cooled but also has a radiator. false fins over the engine. but yeah I can agree with you there.

also for anyone interested this is all the numbers I could find on my mirror, sorry for the bug guts
A41 III [e11] 01*3407

also has an 's' and a 'm' layered one on top of the other, and it probably predates the 'strange music' rap record company logo, they might run into some trouble there

Even with the bug guts that's a good photo of your finger and iPhone :smilie_happy:

found some suitable washers when I was putting tools away, took them back off and applied them because the right mirror seemed rounded out (the female part was loose) and wouldn't tighten, with the washer it works much better. put one in te left side too just for giggles. that pic makes my finger look huge :good:

(ignore keywords) gl1100 hondaline mirror numbers fairing mirror loose 1982
