From the back of the brake pad to the caliper housing is about 13/32". This is not new pads etc.

Ok thanks Julimike, I guess it's more or less normal depending on the make of pads. If anybody else is able to measure the distance , I would be curious to see if they come out more or less the same depending on age of pads. I guess it depends on the model of the bikes. It's the first time I see pistons come out so far on new pads.
