coming from in front, near the timing belt area too the front tire.... makes noises like a bearing going out,, and sometimes it will even make a high pitched shrill,,, this has been going on for quite some time and i guess i can't find it... I have checked for heat around the front axle,,, ? possibly the water pump,,, or two different things,,,.... Put on over 300 mi sunday aftn... (just didn't mention noises to the rider) Im almost hoping whatever it is would just break and get it overwith. maybe im gonna have to try to upload a video of it.

It could easily be a timing belt tensioner! Don't wait until it breaks if that is what is going on! (It will damage your engine from a broken timing belt.)

well ..i think it the timing belt tensioner pulley...need to get this fixed like now dont want broke belt and trash motor ..the sounds you describe sure point to it being the problem

No sure if you have seen the DIY post on making a replacement bearing? If not take a look. I think it is better than looking for a used one.

If it is the belt tensioner which I agree it sounds like. That squeal is likely a belt overheated from rubbing a stationary pully. I suggest new tensioners and belts.

You need to check this out - like yesterday! If it's a belt tensioner, bent or broken valves and possible piston damage would be the result. If it's a water pump, worst-case scenario would be a seized bearing, causing the end of the oil/water pump drive shaft to shear off. An engine-out repair. Yes, I'm trying to scare you...get it checked out!!

Sounds like a belt bearing indeed the only other thing that comes to mind is the electric fan but I haven't heard any failures other then not coming on.

ok,, i will check on the timing belts/tensionser's,, tommorrow.. I took Pam way up (she may have been doin some back seat drivin) into the Kiamichi Mtns sunday,, we were at Clayton Ok.,,, one hail of a restaurant there.. Oh,,, don't have to put hardly any xtra air in the back shocks to haul her!

Bummer, I just checked Cyclemax.com (the only place I could find new tensioners at $75 each) but their tensioners are for 1200/1500s only. Dude it's a tensioner listen to the folks. Don't run her.

+100000 on tensioner vs ride & damage

I won't,, can't ride here anyways,, rain and more rain,, but we need it.

Mine sounded like a circular saw just before I parked and changed mine. Ebay has lots of tensioners listed. If you go this route try to find one or better a pair that came off a low mileage engine from a seller with 100% feedback. If they don't post the mileage pass on them. Change the belts too but I'm guessing you already planned to do that.

Start it at 4:33 I have no idea why I didn't edit that beginning out of the vid.

ya,, you had the buzz saw effect goin on there.. K ? something,, only restaurant in town,, best restaurant I've been too since I was a kid,, 3 trips to the salad bar was my first clue it was gonna b good! someone has a 84ltd up there for sale with 20k miles,, new michelans tires,, new belts,,, like the bike,, hate the color...
I will have to look at the diy replacent bearing post.. thanx tuna,, thanx everyone else for the input..

? tried a video,, not happening,,,, no play in right front tensioner bearing,,, left has play,, but seems like it would b an acceptable amount,, -other than the fact that there is no play in the right.. no signs of heat,, belt's read made in the usa printed in white,, one long mark looks kinda like a bar code... have lots of gray dust around rear passenger seat, rim, tire and noise coming from the differential at half turn reverse intervals,,, ,, caliper is totally free.. ,,, anyways,, does anyone think i have a bad tensioner bearing?

the dust i mentioned is all a light gray,,, ? could just b road dust i guess,, maybe i can take a single pic of that and get it uploaded ,, if anyone thinks need b

not that I'd ignore the tensioners but dust on the passenger seat? Gray is possibly aluminum dust. Add your drive shaft and final drive to the list of things to check.
