I hope to begin a long term online relationship with the members of this forum. I'm the proud owner of a 1981 Interstate that I bought in the fall of 1989 with settlement money I received from what I hope will be my "big one" accident. (Hit head-on, wearing no helmet, and only hyper-extended both knees, dislocated a thumb, plus 2 stitches) The original owner must have gotten a Drag Specialties catalog and bought one of everything (unless he needed two). Pin-striping the whole nine yards. I have photos that I'll post but they're in my old computer at the moment. I wash, wax and polish once a year, Memorial Day weekend and she's lived for the last 23 years under a cover in my garage. I ride her to work at least once a week and limit her miles to 2,000 a year. She turned 72,000 last month and runs flawlessly. I'm 57 and when I can't hold her up anymore she'll be getting near 100,000 and we can both retire together. When I got her these were a dime a dozen. I see only a few of the first generation GWs anymore and they all look worn out. I get asked alot by strangers about her at the gas stations. I've joined because I'm having trouble finding a rubber pasd cover for the aftermarket brake pedal, but I'll find a proper forum to go start that thread. I look forward to meeting you all and she my love of these bikes. Thanx, Dave

Welcome aboard. I won't limit mileage at all. These old bikes will go on almost forever if maintained.

Welcome from Oz Dave. The Rats Nest is one of those worn out looking 81s that you speak of but with less than 40k miles on her she rides like new ( now that we have new rear springs/shocks). :good:
As they are not very common down here she still gets plenty of interest but not as much as Val ( it seems like shiny always wins :smilie_happy: ).

BrianinPA, yes that was a typo (it was before 6:00 in the morning) its "pad". I got photos uploaded to the gallery. I'll take a pic this weekend of the after-market brake pedal and start a new thread. Thanx for the warm welcome, Dave

Hey Joe, if you are passing New Jersey and need a place to lay your head just let me know!! My house is right on the path to CT!

Coventry is a bit north and east of Branford, but if you are going up by 95 and then 91 you will pass Branford on your right at New Haven.

I know what you mean Joe. Cross over into Maryland on 95 and it is non-stop tolls from there!
