Hello, new person here. Live in south Ms. Have 1981 I, just got 1987 I. The 87 been setting up for about a year. The original fuel pump has been replaced. The one that was put on is aftermarket. It makes 6 psi. Is that too much. The work shop manual doesen't list pressure, just how much it is supposed tp deliver. Also know that number 3 carb is flooding real bad. Pulled plugs this morning to do compression test. When I spin it over it shop out about a cup full of gas out of #3 cylinder. Spun engine over several times. put fresh oil into all cylinders, compression between 150 and 160. I will pull carbs tommrow to see about clean out and new needles and seats. This thing is a calfornia model by looking at the hose routing on the side of the fuel tank.

Welcome from Southern California! I've heard 4-6 PSI on carb models, but I'm not positive about that. If only one carb is flooding, the other 3 are holding so it can't be too high. Also, if you have this much gas in a cylinder, change the oil after you fix the carb issue. Enjoy the project!

Howdy Reggie and welcome to CGW. If your frame serial # on the steering head begins with SC 144 it's a California model. If the engine serial # is SC14E2716254 to 2721397 it's a California engine.

Fuel pump should supply 2-4lb. of pressure. These needle valves are hard enough to set so the floats seal them. Additional pressure makes it near impossible. Welcome to the Classic forum. I bought this fuel pump.

That's a great price, the pressure we need, and more than 10 available!
A link worth saving for sure!

Thanks for all the Hellos. I have started on pulling the carbs. On my 81 interstate I can pull them off and on the bench in about an hour. This 87 is different. But all I have is time. I'm on the back side of 70 looking at 71.

Stopped by the Honda shop. Talked to an old friend that does all the carb work. Toll me to go to wal-mart and a jug of Super Clean. Spray the super clean on the float bowls and the varnish and build up flows out almost as fast as you spray it. Let the jets soak in it over night cleaned them real good. Taking my time no hurry. It's 47 outside and going down. You all have a Happy Thanksgiving if I don't get back too you.
