I have an oil leak which appears to be coming from the rear pumpkin on my 80 GL1100. Its a small leak but its leaving sling on the rear rim and tire sidewall as I drive. Just wondering if anyone would know the most likely suspect on the following parts fiche? Im positive its not leaking from the filler or drain screw.

I`m not an expert but there would have to be a seal to seal the gear oil, sounds like the most likely culprit if it is gear oil. If it is grease be sure and use moly paste not moly grease, grease will sling out, paste will stick.

Stuff I used was moly 60 paste it was grey, thick and sticky. Not Honda but stuff from Canadian tire made for Heavy Duty axle splines. The stuff coming out of the drive looks like the stuff i put in the final drive hub. Just not sure which seal in there is the culprit and I read somewhere its not all rebuildable.

OK, so if thats it I would buy some moly 60 or 77 paste and after you replace the seal clean the splines with brake cleaner and remove all of the grease you put on, paste will not stick to the grease so it needs completely removed.
Heres a link to the good stuff.

If it looks like spider web pattern on the rim, it is the large o-ring leaking or missing, easy to fall out when everything is apart.

It does Ill go ahead an order the oilseal #32 and plan on a refurb of the rear hub.

zman I've seen that stuff before but getting products from the US up here is sometimes problematic. Ill send them a email and see about the shipping.

OK, If not a second choice would be honda moly 60, A few dealers still carry it but has been replaced with Honda 77.

It could also be a leaking shock. Fluid will run down the swing arm/diff and sling onto the tire.....
