You will find the specifics for belt tensioning about 3/4 of the way down the thread.

I have tensioned my belts this way several times and it works perfectly as described. No more guess work!

Okay, I am getting close, bought new radiator hose and cut to fit. Napa is expensive, $17 just for a tiny piece , Geesh . Anyway, all I have left is polish and buff timing belt and valve covers. Attach radiator, fill with distilled water for now. She already has fresh oil. Volunteered to watch grandson( I know, I don't look that old) for a couple of hrs while the girls go shopping  then will watch Oklahoma and Baylor tonight. Probably will finish her up tomorrow. I'm nervous. Hope all goes well

P.S. Did run into a slight problem with air filter cover not seating flush. There is a gasket on the air box housing and not on the bottom of air filter. If i remove the gasket I can close the top easily but with gasket on, top cover has 1/4 inch gap. Looked at specs and it does show a gasket, so my only guess is the air filter might be aftermarket and therefore is too tall.

Can remember when mine was that clean, & could crawl around on the floor to work on them, after working my shift at work. :headscratch:

Now would be hard to find a space to lay down, let alone getting back up. :smilie_happy:

The big moment has arrived. I am about to fire her up. Any last minute suggestions before I hit the start button.

I will video the first start up since head gasket replacement and post later. Thanks for everyone's help, I hope all goes well.

 i think you did the best you could do in your position...im floored by how attentive youe were to do something you didnt have knowledge of ...all should use your example in similar circumstances ...good luck :rocks:

Good news and bad news. Bike started up after a few tries, no steam out of pipes , so that's a good sign. Bad news it appears as the 2 & 4 are not running. I believe it was like that before I changed the head gaskets so I'm hoping it's just the coils. 2 and 4 pipes were getting slightly hot but not as hot as 1&3. I'm uploading a video now and will post when done.
Thanks again to everyone for their expertise and guidance during this project. I really appreciate it. I can't believe I pulled this off :music:

sounds good im thinking some carb issue as oppose to ignition .....time to mix some aft or automatic transmission fluid to the gas and ride it some ...but got to watch everything on a new to ytou bike there could be other stuff ...carbs might clean up with atf in the gas ....what temp gauge....nice job

bike has two coils ...one operates front cylinders and other back cylinders ...its usually carb issue when it one side working and other not .....great job :yahoo:

Pull the spark plugs on 2 and 4. If wet then spark is weak. Could be fouled plugs not sparking. Put in a fresh set.
If dry then there's carb trouble.
I'd do a compression check also for reference.

Otherwise sounds good and you're doing great. Well done.
