The previous owner of my 81 Interstate installed a nice set of flipdown highway pegs on the lower part of the engine guard rail. I did not find that this location worked for me so I have repositioned them to the upper engine guard rail but they still don't feel right in this position either. I'm thinking the Wing is almost too wide for highway pegs. They look good on the bike but I don't think they are very functional. I'm just wondering if others have pegs on their wings and if so where on the engine guard rails did you end up placing them, high, low, toward the front, middle or back? It also could be that I've never ridden with my feet off the usual foot rests and I just can't get comfortable with my feet so far from the brake and the gears. Thanks.

Can see where I have mine in this pic.
I'm 6'2 and they work out pretty good there but I would like them to be extended out and down some.

I'm 5'-7" and have them mounted on the same bar as where Dan' s are, just higher up about where the bar curves in toward the rad/engine. If I try to mount it lower then my leg won't clear the back of the engine guard.

My engine guards are a little different then the one in Dan's picture. On mine the bar curve is at the back of the engine while the front is open? You don't suppose someone put the guards on the wrong way? I'll charge up my camera and attach a picture.

I have mine probably about where Dan's are I am 6 ft. and they are comfortable, would not mind having them a little more forward though

I don't think any of the engine guards can go on wrong but there are a few different styles.
I know of at least 4.

Here are a couple of pictures of my engine guards and pegs. As you can see the guards are a little different from the others shown. Without the downtube at the front of the engine finding a good spot for the pegs seems a little more difficult. I'll keep trying because I think I probably need to get used to them as much as finding a good spot for them. Thanks.

Those are the same engine guards I have, and I have my pegs in the same location. They were on the top bar when I bought it, but I had to move them to the lower bar. I'm 6' 1", and ,like others, it wouldn't hurt my feelings none to have them an inch or two farther forward. I've played with them, moving forward, backward, and so far, all the way forward is the most comfy for me.

Those guards are what I have on my 82 Standard and the pegs are in the same place. I agree that the GoldWing feels almost too wide to get comfortable useing the pegs, but after awhile you get used to it. The only time I use them is on longer trips. They are good for shifting the butt muscles.

maybe those shin buster enging guards are making you splay your legs too much to be comfortable. i am taking the 1100 engine guards off my nieces 1100 and replacing them with some from a 1200 wing. she complains about her highway pegs and engine guards on her 1100 wing but not the highway boards or engine guards on my 1200 wing

Dan, I used to have my pegs down where yours are. I moved them to the top of that bar for my last trip to DC and liked them better up high. I am 6'2" and that worked well for me. I was able to relax better.

What are those small pads you have on the back of the engine guards? Do you rest your feet there?

I'll give the pegs a try up higher on the next trip.

Those pads are kind of nice.
I put my foot there and kinda lean on my leg, handy to keep the legs moving around into different positions.
I used to put my foot right on the bar the same place but the parts bike had these.
