Do I need counseling?

2 weeks ago I sold an 83 GL1100A, so I was down to a 78 GL1000, an 84 GL1200I basket case and my daily rider, an 85 GL1200I.

I went to the license bureau Tuesday to renew the tags and the clerk saw I had 2 Gold Wings and asked me if I wanted to buy another. I answered "maybe" and drove an 86 GL1200A home yesterday. It still has the Honda tool kit; the air compressor works, and the auxiliary air hose for airing up tires was included. Paint is OK, but will be renewed sooner or later. Seat cover is dull (may clean up OK) and the backrest cover has threads showing, so it gets replaced.

It shows 22000 on the odometer; the fork seals leak; the front tire is weather cracked; the front and rear brake pads need changed, and the speedometer sending unit doesn't work. It has either an exhaust leak or a noisy lifter. If its an exhaust leak, the basket case just became a parts bike because it has a good exhaust system. The PO gave me a new tire and the new fork seals. I have a working sending unit in the garage. Obviously, I will change the timing belts, oil, and filter before riding it.

I can probably stretch out the repair time to a couple months, but what will I do after that?

Please tell me I'm normal.

I had my 76 and my 84 in the garage completely torn apart with parts everywhere and my wife kept giving me the stink eye when I was showing her the other bikes I wanted to buy. There is no cure for MBS. The only medication for MBS is more bikes! Its the fun of working on them. No doubt its only a matter of time before I get my next project. I will always keep the 84 for touring and 2 up riding and my 76 as my rip around toy. Projects will be just to have something to do and hopefully make a few bucks or at least break even.

Have fun with your new projects.

Registration and insurance cured me..Nothing burns my hide like paying for something that sits more then its ridden..Would be nice if the person was insured instead of the vehicle.

Congrats on the new wheels.

Your new acquisition sounds nice, maybe its just an exhaust gasket that's leaking. You didn't explain what the other problem was....I have my MBS in 2 categories...1978 and 1983.

MBS is a state of mind. My mind states I need another.
