68°F. So I'm taking advantage of it and replacing the ignition.

Does the C5 do away with the (1982 only) resistor? As shown on the schematic.

Dan says that the coil set replaces the bracket the coils sit on, I don't see that happening, totally different shape and configuration, new set has 3 mounting holes?

Maybe Paul can weigh in here, I'd appreciate any help!

cant talk about coil mounts on 1100 ...but the c5 replaces entire ignition ...dan or paul can be some help here ...dont do anything till your sure ...me personally my c5 is totally seperate from honda wiring ...i was in no way hooking up to old honda wiring ..but im sure most will or have ...good thread and ? ...let others chime in

C5 coils do not use the stock resistor or any resistor.

The C5 coils should have come with new brackets that bolt the new coil pack to the frame.
The stock aluminum coil mounts are not used to mount them.

The 1000 kit comes with spacers for the 1000 frame/coil mounts.

I don't have a part number for "1000 kit in a 1100 engine" so you'll need 1100 coil mounts from our old 1100 kit (no longer available).

Our new Universal kit will hopefully have coil mounts for all of the 4 cylinder frames but I don't own all of them so it might take a bit of time. I don't own an 1100 or 1200 so its tough to finish that part of the project.

I will get you the correct 1100 coil brackets sent out Monday morning (you send me an email, right?)

As for wiring up our ignition, I recommend finding a direct lead coming from the handlebar mounted shut off switch and use that to power the module. DO NOT use resistors. If you want to bypass the ignition switch and kill switch for the coils that is ok, since the coils won't turn on unless the engine is running.

Send me an email or call if you have questions. I have been working out of town and don't have time to check forums much lately. [email protected] or call 920-403-0555

:thanks:

First, I want to apologize publicly to two people that responded like it was a 911 call, to a drunk-ass PM reply I made last week connected to this thread. You guys know who you are. I promise never to cry wolf again. Thank you. :head bang:

Secondly, back on point, after studying as much info' as I can. It seems this system also does away with the stock spark units too, am I correct?

I am working on a revised manual for the GL1100 and 1200 installation, since the 1000 never had spark boxes to worry about.
This was supposed to happen last week at Louis Hallett's shop but as most of you know, his death the day before our photo shoot put this project on the back burner for a few weeks.

More information will be shared on my original C5 Goldwing post as well.

INFO:

Our ignitions always eliminate factory ignition parts. Shame on me for assuming everyone knows this already.
You do NOT use resistors, spark boxes, or anything else. You can remove old parts or simply unplug them.

Our ignition should be connected to a power supply that turns off with the handlebar shutoff switch but if you bypass that it is completely up to you. Erratic voltages increase chances of electronic failures so fix loose wiring before installation!

I have always used the stock Honda coil power to operate our coils and ignition module. So far I've not had issues.

FRAME MOUNTS:

GL1000 frame uses stock Honda aluminum coil mounts. The lower mount gets flipped 180 degrees and we provide two spacers and M5x40 bolts for this and two M6x20 screws for the frame (in case you destroyed the old ones).

GL1100 frame needs two "L" shaped brackets. The coil sits with the towers facing upward.

GL1200....I have not test fit yet but the same brackets can be used with the coil towers facing down. I know it fits a bare frame but waiting for a few people to provide feedback for me.

If anyone gets stuck while installing, give me a call. I am gone much of the time and don't check forums daily.

Condolences on the passing of your Bro' Dude!!

Thanks, he will be missed. However, we got far enough into these new kits that I can finish the GL1500 and create a fairly nice installation guide for the 1100/1200 models. Everyone loves a great manual including me!

Well, since I broke the #1 man rule and read the instructions properly, I now realize I was thinking far too deeply into this thing, it really is, much easier than I was imagining!

Been proven guilty of that before and for exactly the same reason. Should of learned then, I guess?

Now that I'm aware of just how much this system replaces of the old system, I'm a whole lot happier about the situation, just sorry it took testing a couple of friendships to achieve that.

Right now I'm in the process of making adjustments to the coil brackets I was recently sent to make them fit. I now know I can make them work, slung below and without, contacting the frame, I will send photo's to Paul on that, thanks Paul for the photo's, they got me out of trouble.

And thanks too, to all ya'all.

Well, since I broke the #1 man rule and read the instructions properly, I now realize I was thinking far too deeply into this thing, it really is, much easier than I was imagining!...

It's even easier the second time around!

Hopefully this is the last stupid question I'm gonna ask about this as I'm so close to finishing I can smell it.

And I don't know why I don't know this already, the amount of work I've done to this bike, I feel like I should!

What is the direction of engine rotation? I'm thinking clockwise while sitting on the bike.

The reason I ask is because the C5 instructions clearly state, to turn the encoder wheel in the opposite direction to engine rotation, to bring on the red LED, and then tighten it down.

I also don't quite get why this is necessary as all it's doing is lining it up with TDC at #1 cylinder?

I'm doing this on the left head due to the 75 cam, thanks.

the ignition turns counter clockwise ...so turn disc clockwise and tighten..if it says it important ..it flat out is to me ...gary paul and the gang know there stuff ...i just went through this the other day ...good ? chilli nothing dumb on this at all
