New guy here...

Just picked up an '83 Aspencade that has been sitting outside for a while...slowly taking her apart and putting it all back together.

So, looking through forums for advice and information and see what others have accomplished before for ideas & inspiration!

Welcome to the CGW Forums, Gondul!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Nice Valk, too. :good:

Welcome from the Central Valley of California. Your 100 years old? And from Florida too? And still riding.......Must be the Vitamin C from all those oranges you must have eaten while living down there and the sunshine too. "Live long and prosper" :headscratch:
:salute:

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Don't know how much I will be able to contribute as this is my first GL1100 and it is in pretty poor shape! So instead I will delve deep into the forums for information and hopefully not ask questions that have been asked a gazillion times before.

I bought the Valk new in 98 and have had a fun time wrenching on the little issues that have cropped up here and there, this new (to me) GL is gonna be an adventure!

And no, while I am not 100yrs old I *do* live in Florida...I just don't like being told that I *have to* answer questions...

:thanks:

It's a pretty informal forum. You don't have to answer questions but feel free to ask 'em. Plenty of nice people here and a lot of real good information.....so what are you? 90? ...Just kidding :smilie_happy:

We have a 1500 forum too! It would be great if you could share about the little issue that you have found or had fun wrenching on your Valk! That is most likely going to be one of my next bikes! I really like the 2001 Interstate.

Here is the worst of the rust that I can see so far...left side

101_2319.jpg

Gonna need a new exhaust

Ok, here are some more...

I have since removed the false tank & the fairing...

101_2322.jpg

Removed the 'christmas tree' off the back...I'm thinking I need to find the stock taillight bracket...

101_2323.jpg

Aside from the bottom of the lowers there are no cracks in any of the body pieces...

101_2331.jpg

The only rust hole in the center stand...no cracks...

101_2330.jpg

If this was mine which it's not but anyway, I'd do away with the frame and find a rust free frame somewhere if you can, the rust in all throught the insides of the tubeing...I would never fully trust it even if I fixed it up..

I can't wait to see how you fix it up because I'm sure you will do an outstanding job on it... :salute:
